Ten Minutes is All it Takes
Finally sat down for 10 minutes over a recent lunchtime and scribbled down a scene on a couple of sides of a shorthand notepad. Last night I typed that up with a sense of satisfaction. Despite not having touched the WIP for a disgracefully long time, the scene even fits in straight after the last one written which was a surprise, having forgotten what happened in that one!
So a pigeon step or two was achieved closer to the ‘Rocks and Water’ scene, and I have a much better idea of how to get there now, having spent about 10 minutes a few weeks ago scrawling down some thoughts about plotting.
Ten minutes here or there does have an effect. Ten minutes every day would be even better, but I’m working on that.
Anyway, here is the latest set of ROW80 participant blogs. Just realised I almost missed the last one for Round 2!
You know, sometimes our perfectionist thinking tells us that if we can’t sit down and write for an hour or so, then there’s no use in sitting down at all. But ten minutes is ten minutes, right? Every moment counts. You take what time you have and do your best with it.
Good luck and hope to see you next round!
ten minutes every now and then add up to hours:) small is often good and very satisfactory – obviously your brain had filed the chapter before and had been just waiting the chance to continue:) all the best
This was the hardest lesson for me to learn in writing; I even wrote a guest post about it a few months ago. I thought for years that I had to have a huge block of time in order to write, so my writing languished through the years of young children and ill parents, sad to say.
Not only can one write in small snippets, but writing often keeps the pump primed and lessens the “where was I?” time for the next writing session.
Bravo for the lesson learned–that alone makes your Round a success!
